We take a look at the latest budget Android tablet

With Binatone announcing last week that it is all set to unleash the world's first Android-powered home phone, you may be forgiven for forgetting about its other Android device that was originally announced over at IFA in September - the Binatone HomeSurf tablet.

Available in 7-inch and 8-inch flavours, Pocket-lint got its mucky paws on the bigger of the two for a quick once over.

First impressions are that it feels nice in the hand, with a softish back and a nice display on the front courtesy of a 800 x 600 SVGA resolution. It definitely feels and looks nicer than other budget Android tablets that we've seen, such as the Disgo 6000.

It's a resistive screen, but it seemed to respond quite well, and there's a stylus supplied too along with a leather case and a docking system. The docking system also charges the unit and acts as a mini-speaker.

Like the Binatone iHomePhone it is only packing Android 1.6, so no Market Place access, but you can search for and install compatible apps yourself.

It's got b/g/n Wi-Fi on board, 2GB of storage (expandable via microSD), a mini USB port, auto-rotation, stereo speakers and a built-in microphone.

Out in time for Christmas, the 7-inch version will cost around ?129 and it will be ?50 more for an extra inch.
