App Review: Jet Car Stunts [Video]

Who hasn’t wanted to fly around a race track in a jet powered car? I know I ‘kinda’ have. Endgame Studio’s recently released port of True Axis’ late 2009 iPhone hit Jet Car Stunts finally brings the crazy to Android. Jet Car Stunts is part of those rarest of breeds, a platform racer. Those of [...]

Skype teases upcoming mobile video sharing solution

Skype put up a new teaser site Wednesday that suggests a new mobile video sharing feature may be introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. Under the heading “I wish I could share moments like these,” the site displays various videos presumably recorded on cell phones. Unfortunately, it appears as though this imminent mobile video solution from Skype may be a video sharing product, where users can record video clips and then share them with contacts. Mobile video sharing solutions are quite old at this point, and consumer interest has moved toward live mobile video chat such as Apple’s FaceTime and the Qik video chat application found on various Android devices. The specifics of Skype’s mobile video offering are

Stickpecker: Chopsticks You Can Crack Apart Over and Over Again

To the Japanese, the crack of splitting apart a pair of chopsticks is apparently as satisfying as the splitting the membrane-like seal on a jar of instant coffee is to us. More, it signifies the start of a meal, even if that meal is the kind eaten with disposable, takeaway cutlery.
This has led to the [...]

VIDEO: Nativity gets makeover for the digital age

Search and social networking all play their part
VIDEO: Nativity gets makeover for the digital age. Online, Christmas, Google, Video 0

It seems that the times are a changing - clearly. This video called the Digital Story of the Nativity by ExcentricPT shows the methods that may have been employed if the Nativity was set in the present day, as opsed to a couple of thousand years ago.

The video shows various digital online tech aiding the happy couple as they? prepare for the coming of the Messiah. Online services such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, YouTube, Google Search, Wikipedia, Google Maps, GMail, Foursquare and Amazon are used to update status and find out places to stay, whilst also helping them plan their trip to Bethlehem.

A little bit silly? Yes. But it's also a bit of fun. Apart from anything else it makes you wonder how Mary and Joseph coped without all the modern conveniences of the online world. Oh yes, we forgot, they had God on their side - very handy.

5 ways to recycle or revitalize your old computer

Macintosh SEChristmas is coming, and you're about to have a ton of time off. Some of that time will be spent energetically tearing apart beautifully-wrapped gifts, and eating food is certainly next on the list of priorities. Obviously you have to play with your new gifts (or put on your new socks), but after that... after the postprandial sofa-surfing grunts and burps and farts... well, there isn't a whole lot you can do.

The other big thing about Christmas is the amount of waste it produces. Wrapping paper, cards, ribbons, the plastic packaging of the presents themselves... there's an awful lot of trash on Christmas Day. Then, of course, you need to throw out all of the things that have been replaced by new gifts: old kitchen appliances, clothes, televisions, printers and, most importantly, computers. A new laptop or desktop is incredibly cheap nowadays, which makes them very popular gifts.

But shouldn't we do something with the old stuff, rather than just throwing it out? Of course, you could Freecycle or wade into the Craigslist cesspit, or give your clothes to charity -- but hold onto those old computers! You'd be surprised with how many cool things you can do with an old desktop or laptop computer. You could finally learn how to use Linux, or set up a media center PC so that you can watch downloaded movies on your TV. You could create a locked-down box for your kids to surf the Web on, or a network-attached storage server for your backups. There's almost no end to the list of neat things you can do with an old PC!

Window Expander for Chrome lets you view YouTube videos in near-full screen without hacking Flash

windowexpander
These days, you no longer have to be an esoteric nerd to sport a dual-monitor setup. Heck, many of us use three monitors, and some have been known to use entire walls. Now, when you have such a setup and try to watch a YouTube video in full-screen, you quickly discover an irritating fact: While you're watching a video in full-screen on one monitor, any click on another monitor collapses the video back to its tiny windowed size.

There are ways to get around this by replacing specific Flash DLLs with tweaked versions, but really, who wants to mess with system files like this? Window Expander for Chrome is a far less invasive solution. It adds a button to Chrome's Omnibar which you can click to display a full-screen window with the video you're currently watching. Since Chrome has so little, well, chrome, it's the next best thing to full-screen. Window Expander is simple, and it works. Go give it a try!
