LG Optimus 2X hands-on

CES 2011: First dual-core processor handset
LG Optimus 2X hands-on

LG's Optimus 2X handset is the world's first mobile to feature a dual-core processor, so we were very keen to get a close look at what it can do.

The handset is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 2 (NP2H) 1Ghz processor, which makes it very speedy in operation. The touchscreen is very zippy and responsive and the multi-touch function is also extremely smooth.

The Optimus 2X runs on Android 2.2 Froyo (to be upgraded to Gingerbread), and uses LG's Android-based Optimus UI 2.0, so operation is simple and intuitive and very, very fast. The screen uses NOVA technology, making the display impressively bright. So far, we've only been able to see the screen in operation inside, but if the performance under artificial lighting is anything to go by then the screen should do well in bright sunlight.

We were slightly surprised to learn that the phone will only come with 8GB of built-in memory, although it will be expandable to 32GB using a micro SD card.

The handset is slightly chunkier and heavier than the new Optimus Black, but it's still a very streamlined product that won't burst the seams of your pocket.
